Three generations, one shop
Started with a truck and a phone line in 1971
Walter Reeve started Reeve Plumbing out of a rented garage on 8 Avenue in Bridgeland, working mostly on the galvanized supply lines that every Calgary house of the era had been built with. He kept the business small on purpose — one truck, then two, then a handful more, but never a fleet big enough that he stopped answering the phone himself.
His grandson, Marcus, grew up riding along on service calls and took over the company in 2009 after Walter's health made the daily calls impossible. Marcus brought in Colm Fife — a licensed gasfitter he'd apprenticed alongside for eleven years — as a full partner, and the shop became Reeve & Fife. The name changed. The corner of Bridgeland it operates out of didn't.
Today the company runs six service vehicles and looks after roughly 3,000 households across Calgary's inner city and established suburbs — the same kind of pre-1990s housing stock Walter spent his career learning. Marcus and Colm still take emergency calls themselves during winter cold snaps, when the phone doesn't stop.
