FAQ

Questions we hear on almost every discovery call

What does it cost to work with Voss Advisory?
Fees are fixed and quoted monthly, based on your transaction volume, entity structure, and whether cleanup work is needed at the start. We review your last 2–3 months of books before quoting a specific number — we don't work by the hour, so there's no incentive to pad time.
Do you work with clients outside Portland?
Yes. Most engagement happens by video call and shared cloud software (QuickBooks Online, Xero, Gusto), so we work with businesses throughout Oregon and Washington. Oregon-based business and individual tax preparation is our core focus; if you're licensed or based elsewhere, ask on your discovery call.
What if my books are a mess right now?
That's the starting point for a lot of our clients, not a disqualifier. We scope cleanup work separately from the ongoing monthly fee, so getting caught up doesn't blow up your first invoice. Most cleanup projects take two to six weeks depending on how far behind things are.
What software do you use?
QuickBooks Online or Xero for bookkeeping, and Gusto for payroll. If you're currently on a different platform, migration is part of onboarding. We don't currently support desktop-only accounting software.
Do you take on new clients during tax season?
We do, though onboarding timelines run longer between February and mid-April since the team is focused on filing deadlines for existing clients. If you reach out during that window, we'll be upfront about realistic start dates.
Do you handle individual tax returns, not tied to a business?
Generally, no — we focus on business bookkeeping and the personal returns of business owners we already work with. If you're only looking for an individual return with no business involved, we're likely not the right fit, and we're glad to say so upfront.
Can you represent us if we get an IRS or state notice?
Yes, written correspondence and notice response are included for active clients. We'll walk you through what a notice actually means before responding — most are routine and don't indicate a problem with your return.
Is our financial data secure?
We work exclusively through the security infrastructure of QuickBooks Online, Xero, and Gusto rather than storing financial data on local devices, and access is limited to the staff working on your account. Details on how information is handled are in our Privacy Policy.
