Portland Peninsula & Casco Bay
Old houses, real answers, one steady agent.
Nora Kessler has sold Portland's historic and waterfront neighborhoods for eleven years — knob-and-tube wiring, tidal setbacks, and all.
Why Anchor & Ash
A market that rewards knowing the difference between a fixable quirk and a real problem.
Portland's inventory is old, coastal, and inconsistent — a 1900 cape and a 1978 raised ranch can sit three doors apart. Anchor & Ash exists to read that difference for you, whether you're buying your first place on the peninsula or listing a house your family has owned for decades.
For Buyers
Move to Maine without guessing at what a house is hiding.
Home inspections written in plain language, financing that accounts for older construction, and a founder who has walked through most of the West End's basements.
For Sellers
List a house that shows its age well — and prices accordingly.
A pricing strategy built from actual peninsula comps, a staging plan suited to older rooms, and marketing that reaches buyers relocating from out of state.

Three things clients mention most
Old-house literacy
Nora reads a 1900 foundation and a 1978 addition differently, and tells you which one to worry about before you're under contract.
Fast, honest timelines
Well-priced peninsula listings move in days, not weeks. You'll know that going in, and exactly where you stand at every offer stage.
Relocation, handled
Nearly half of Anchor & Ash's buyers move from out of state. Timelines, remote closings, and local referrals are built into how she works.
The Founder
Eleven years, one peninsula, no interest in leaving it.
Nora started at a downtown brokerage in 2015 and spent her first two years mostly in basements — learning what real settling looks like versus what a home inspector should flag. She opened Anchor & Ash in 2021 to work the way she'd always wanted to: one client at a time, with enough time to actually explain what she's looking at.
She lives in Deering with her husband and an elderly beagle, and can tell you which streets flood in a nor'easter before you ask.

Where Anchor & Ash Works
Five neighborhoods, closely covered
Rather than covering all of Cumberland County thinly, Nora works a defined set of neighborhoods well enough to know their permitting offices by name.
From Recent Clients
What it's like to work with Anchor & Ash
“Nora told us to walk away from a house we loved, and she was right. Three weeks later she found the one we actually bought.”
“We sold my mother's house from two states away. Every step was explained before it happened, not after.”
“She knew our building's sewer line had been an issue before the inspector even opened the panel.”

Common Questions
Before you reach out
Do you work with buyers relocating from out of state?
Yes — nearly half of Anchor & Ash's buyers move to Maine from elsewhere. Nora runs remote and hybrid showings, coordinates inspections around travel schedules, and can close without you needing to be in Portland for signing.
How competitive is the peninsula market right now?
Well-priced listings under $700,000 on the peninsula frequently receive multiple offers within the first week. Older or larger properties above that range tend to move more slowly. Your consultation will include a read on your specific price range.
Can you help with an inspection on a 100-year-old house?
This is a core part of what Anchor & Ash does. Nora attends inspections in person when possible and works with a short list of inspectors experienced with knob-and-tube wiring, granite foundations, and older heating systems.
Do you only work with buyers, or sellers too?
Both. About 55% of Anchor & Ash's business is buyer representation and 45% is listing homes for sale, split fairly evenly across the neighborhoods Nora covers.
Ready to talk through your next move?
A consultation takes about thirty minutes and costs nothing — whether you're two months from moving or just starting to look.
